Windows 7 64bit == fail.
Microsoft recently release the release candidate for Windows 7. Unfortunately, they forgot to add standard CDROM drivers (and wonder why people complain about their software.) After booting, it states that it can’t find the CDROM driver (on Vista it uses cdrom.sys, so it isn’t like I am using some sneaky unsupported DVD drive.) Very classy, I am quite impressed! So far I have run half a dozen operating systems on this laptop, and Windows was the first to not be able to use the DVD drive–after booting from it. I was expecting video driver problems, or maybe wireless driver problems, but something as basic as not being able to read the media it just booted off of is impressive!

Interesting, I tried several times without luck. I did download the 32 bit version, but I haven’t gathered the psychic energy to attempt another install. I really hope it is faster than Vista :)

BTW, I do now have the RTM running, and I must say it is the most stable windows ever (well other than the BSOD’s in VmWare Fusion when it tries to take a snapshot, and the memory leaks, and . . . but hey it IS Windows, and besides it isn’t an operating system if I can’t find at least several ways to panic the kernel through normal use scenarios, one of the reasons I work in security–stuff just seems to break when I am around.)

I had the same problem just reboot and try again, it works fine. I’m actually impressed with Win 7 once it’s loaded. It had tons of driver support for odd hardware including RAID cards and video.
